On Thursday, 20 October 2022, St Joseph’s Preschool & Long Day Care in Rosebery proudly celebrated its official Blessing and Opening Ceremony. The special event brought together community members, staff, and families to mark the beginning of a new chapter in early childhood education.
The ceremony was presided over by the Most Rev Daniel Meagher DD, Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney, alongside Parish Priest Fr. P.A. Smither, who together offered prayers and blessings for the centre, its staff, and its families.
Acknowledgement of Country
The event began with a heartfelt Acknowledgement of Country delivered by Uncle Ralph, honouring the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the traditional custodians of the land. Reflecting on the deep cultural heritage of the area, Uncle Ralph shared: "We honour the Gadigal people, their enduring connection to this land, and their role in teaching and nurturing future generations."
A Vision of Faith and Learning
During the ceremony, Franceyn O’Connor, CEO of Sydney Catholic Early Childhood Services (SCECS), articulated the mission of the centre: "St Joseph’s Preschool is a place where children can grow in confidence, curiosity, and compassion. Inspired by St Joseph’s humility and care, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming space for all."
Bishop Meagher also shared an inspiring blessing, underscoring the sacred nature of early learning spaces and their role in shaping children’s futures: "May this centre be a beacon of hope and wisdom, where children discover their potential and are guided by the light of faith."
