Role Purpose

The primary objective of the Pedagogy and Practice Officer is to collaborate and facilitate the delivery of high-quality education and care programs across Sydney Catholic Early Childhood Services. The Pedagogy and Practice Officer will support services to build their capacity and capability to provide consistently high educational experiences for all children as defined in the NSW Early Years Framework, Belonging, Being and Becoming and the National Quality Standards


● University qualification as an Early Childhood Teacher
● NESA Teacher Accreditation
● First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis and CPR
● Identify & respond to children and young people at risk of significant harm
● Current NSW driver’s licence and use of a comprehensively insured, registered motor vehicle.
● A valid NSW Working with Children Check clearance number


Essential –
● Demonstrated 5 years of teaching experience in a leadership role in an Early
Childhood setting.
● Demonstrated competence in contributing to an atmosphere of trust and professional respect through an attitude of openness, tolerance, constructive conflict resolution processes and maintenance of confidentiality.
● Ability to assess, manage and where possible mitigate workplace risk Including Work health and safety risk, the risk to educators and children, reputational risk and personal risks.
● Experience in the effective facilitation of adult education, helping to set professional goals and support leading to successful outcomes
● Proven skills in communicating successfully with families, children and educators
● Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning and development.
● High level written, oral and presentation skills.


● Demonstrated current knowledge of the early childhood sector, including knowledge of the National Quality Framework and standards
● Understanding of contemporary early childhood pedagogies, their promotion within a curriculum plan and the ongoing cycle of critical reflection to improve educational outcomes for all children
● Ability to facilitate change through reflective practice and a strength-based approach as well as an understanding of adult learning principles.
● Ability to ensure information, records and data are monitored and securely maintained.
● Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team environment, with an innovative, supportive and flexible approach to work.
● Ability to develop positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders, internal and external
● Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with using standard computer software, such as Microsoft Office and online databases

● Willingness to respect and uphold the ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of the Employer; and by conduct and known public lifestyle, give witness to the mission of the Catholic Church;

Sydney Catholic Early Childhood Services (SCECS) is a not-for-profit service catering to children and families from our Catholic schools and the local community. SCECS currently operates Outside School Hours Care and Early Childhood Services at several Catholic schools and Parishes within the Sydney Archdiocese.
